Sir Phil Redmond holds a special place in TV history as the creator of ground-breaking television dramas Grange Hill, Brookside and Hollyoaks. For over 20 years, he ran his own production company Mersey Television and played a major role in turning around Liverpool’s fortunes by helping to secure the city as European Capital of Culture in 2008.
In 2013, he published his autobiography Mid-Term Report and released his first novel Highbridge in 2016. His latest project is exploring the possibility of revisiting Grange Hill and its place in Britain today.
He was appointed CBE in 2004 for service to drama and was knighted in the 2020 Birthday Honours for services to broadcasting and arts in the regions.
