Cheshire’s role in the English Civil War offers rich pickings for would-be writers of historical fiction. Apparently, the man who sentenced King Charles I to death was a Cestrian; the last battle of the war was fought on Cheshire soil and Royalist stronghold Chester city suffered a 16-month siege between 1644 and 1646!
Transforming fact into fiction is the tricky bit. Steve and Tony will explore how to harness historical information, including a focus on Tony’s latest book, The Tailor Spy, inspired by a heroic real-life tailor at the Battle of Worcester in 1651.
