‘SIMPLY TO BEGIN’: WRITING FOR WELLBEING
Thursday 4th May: 10.30am-12.30pm – Creative writing workshop with Julia McGuinness
Each dawn brings the opportunity for new beginnings, whether we make these eagerly or reluctantly, from choice or out of necessity. ‘To make a good beginning is an art form, writes the poet David Whyte, but however we do it ‘what is important is simply to begin.’
In this workshop, we will explore the dynamics of fresh starts and new ventures, in life and on the page. Writing for well-being incorporates writing for personal expression and insight as well as enjoying our creativity.
Julia McGuinness is a writing practitioner and poet, based in Flintshire. She runs writing workshops for creativity and well-being in various locations, including Gladstone’s Library in Hawarden. She belongs to the Lapidus International network of well-being writing practitioners.
Since 2019, Julia has been Poet-in-Residence at Chester Cathedral. Her publications include Writing our Faith and a poetry collection Chester City Walls. In 2021, three of Julia’s poems were set to music by local composer Michael Williams, as part of the Marches Songbook project.
